30
Minute English Lesson for Beginner 2-4 year olds Introducing Numbers,
Color and ABC's
1. Warm up-
get the students comfortable by doing simple actions with them.
Say and do the following, don’t worry if your students don’t
follow you right away: clap your hands, jump, spin around, sit down,
stand up. Also, I usually start out the lesson saying Hello and
waving my arms. You can also sing the Hello
Song at this point
2. Numbers-
Practice counting objects from 1-10, or using flash cards. If the
students are comfortable with numbers, play a simple touch game.
Call out the number and ask the students to touch.
3. Song-
Let’s Count 1 to 10, a free Dream English
download.
4. Alphabet-Using
flash cards introduce the alphabet from A to Z. You may want to
introduce phonics at this point, or just the alphabet letters. Next,
have the students stand up and make the shapes of ABC with their
body.
5. Song-ABC
Song, another free Dream English download.
6. Colors-
introduce the colors using flashcards, objects,
or items around the room. Try to have the students repeat after
you.
7. Song-Color
Song, yes another Dream English free download
8. Coloring-
this is optional, but you can use crayons to have the students repeat
the names of the colors again. Then have them color something simple.
I suggest having the kids color the Dream English "My Color
Chart" ready to print here.
9. Read a book-
Any book for kids is great. I recommend asking the students questions
when reading. “What do you see on the page? flowers, that’s
right. What color are they? how many?” If you don't have any
books, you can download books for free at the new site brought to
you by Dream English: KidsEnglishBooks.com.
There is also audio so if you are not a native speaker you can here
the correct pronunciation.
10. Goodbye Song
The Goodbye Song has a lot of actions, so
even young students can follow along. I always sing this at the
end of the class, as it lets students know that the class is over.
At the end, I always say, "Goodbye, thank you, see you!"
to my students with a big smile so they know they have done a great
job!
This is a rough outline of what I think is a pretty good class schedule.
Give it a try, and see how it goes for you. You may want to make
some adjustments, as the time is relative to class size, etc. I
often also use coloring time as a way to settle young energetic
students. I have some ready to print animal coloring
sheets here you can download and use in your classes. You may
also want to have a few more things planned in case the lesson goes
quicker than expected. For many more class ideas, check out the
free songs with lesson ideas. Good luck,
and most of all have fun!
