What are your favorite games to use in class?

I use all kind of games, from simple touch games (find the card I am saying and touch it), to more complicated board games or card games in my classes. I use the games as ways to reinforce the language I am teaching, or to change the energy in the class if I find it necessary.

MES English has some great games http://www.mes-english.com/games.php I highly recommend checking those out. For elementary age learners I have really been into the MES English Big Town game, it is fantastic. :D

Another simple game that I have used from 2 years through 12 years old is the tower game. Simply take turns stacking flash cards on top of paper cups until it tumbles over. The students take turns stacking the cards. First they have to say the vocabulary, or letter of the alphabet, depending on what flash cards you are using. I always have them say "thank you" when they receive the card from me. Some other vocab I use is "be careful" when the tower looks like it will fall over.

These are just some ideas. What works well for you? please let us know!

Hi there!

The most popular game in all my classes with no exception is the Telephone Game: I split the classes into three or four rows, and then I whisper a different sentence to the first student of each row. Since each row is a "telephone", they have to make sure that the message (sentence) is delivered to the last student in the row, who has to say it out loud. They pass the message by whispering it to the person immediately behind them. This is a terrific game because students have to not only practise their listening ability but also their speaking ability.

Another game that they are always asking me to play and that works very well for almost any topic is word or sentence bingo. Each student has a bingo card and writes 6 words or sentences from one or more units. Then I say one sentence or word and students have to check if they have it on their cards. The first student to have the six sentences or words of their card said out loud says "bingo!" and wins the game.

All my students are just now starting to learn English and they are all very young, so the games that suit them best are all very simple!

I have visited www.mes-english.com and it had been very helpful for me, there’re games, flashcards, and the games creators, I hope I could thank the person who made the page, he/she is a very generous person!!!

I have made dices with pictures to play in the classroom, for example the child has to describe the picture or make a sentence or say what it is, my students love the dices!!
