Let's talk about teaching Elementary school students.

Teacher, does Santa really exist?!

Postby DianaParracho on Sat Nov 29, 2008 3:40 pm

Hi there,

Christmas is here and suddenly all my 5 elementary school classes are struggling with this question: "Does Santa really exist?". It has become a main topic because more or less half of my students believe he does exist, while the other half insists that "It's Mum and Dad that buy our presents! Duuuh!". And, since they can't reach an agreement, they turn to me and ask who's right.

So...what am I supposed to say? (and it's not necessarily the older ones who say that Santa doesn't exist...).

Those of you who have more experience than me dealing with this kind of situation please help! :)

I guess this could be kinda tough to answer. I don't have a ton of experience with this, but what I normally say is, "of course Santa is real" and give a kinda smile that lets the kids who want to believe, believe, and the kids who don't believe get my drift. ;)

Last year I had to dress up as Santa for a bunch of parties, and a lot of kids new right away it was me. However, I never let up that it was and held to the end that I am not Santa. That way the kids who want to use their imagination and believe, could.

I hope this helps!
